Manicure and pedicure simply refers to how we take care of our hands and toes, cosmetically, to make them look clean, healthy and pleasing to the eye.
That’s one of the first things we’re thought in school. To keep our fingernails clean so they look good, and to also get rid of all the dirt and germs we come in contact with every day.
That’s also why most of us cut our nails, file them, polish them and apply polish to them, so they look good, especially when we go out.
In this article, I’ll be listing some of the manicure and pedicure tools you need to really take care of your hands and feet.
You may not need all of them if you’re just doing your manicure and pedicure by yourself. But if you own a salon, you definitely require all of them to take care of your clients.
Here are all the tools you need for regular manicure and pedicure.

Nail Clippers
I believe everyone should have nail clippers at home. You seriously don’t have to own a salon before getting some nail clippers.
You have to take care of your nails. If you have kids, you can use it to clip their nails as well, and keep them well trimmed.
So, for me, nail clippers are one of the first tool or accessory you should get for regular manicure and pedicure at home.
Electric Nail Drill
An electric nail drill is just like a regular power drill, but it’s a lot smaller like an electric screwdriver, and it comes with bits of various sizes for shaping, polishing and cleaning acrylic nails or even your natural nails.
But they’re mainly used for working on acrylic nails. Instead of filing and polishing for several minutes with a hand file or nail buffer, you can just make a quick work of it using an electric nail drill.
If you operate a nail salon, this is definitely a must have for you.
Cuticle Pusher
A cuticle pusher helps you push dead cuticle on your fingernails and toenails away from the nail bed, so you can use a cuticle trimmer to trim them off nicely.
Dead cuticle on your nails are really not a sight to behold. Using a cuticle pusher and a trimmer, you can trim them off, and expose the fine nail bed underneath.
If you have a salon, this is a must have.
Cuticle Trimmer
Cuticle trimmers look a bit like nail clippers, but they’re used for trimming the dead skin around your nails.
If you own a salon, these are a must-have for you. You don’t just want to use a razor for this. You need a good pair of cuticle trimmer or nipper like the one shown above.
Nail Files and Emery Boards
After trimming your nails, the edges usually look rough. Hence, you need a nail file to smoothen the edges so that they look good.
You don’t want to just leave the rough edges like that. So, get a good nail file, and file those rough edges down.
There are several types of nail files you can go for. There are crystal or glass nail files, emery boards, and there are metal nail files.
Nail Buffer Block
Nail buffer blocks are exactly what the name says they are. They’re designed for buffing and polishing your nails to make look shiny, and overall good-looking.
They’re usually a rectangular block with 4 different types of materials on all 4 sides. One side for shaping or filing down, another for smoothening, another for buffing, and the last side for polishing the nails.
Nail Scissors
Nail scissors are also used for trimming nails just like nail clippers, but they offer you more precision and accuracy, so you can trim harder to reach areas like the cuticles and calluses around the edges of the nails.
They’re basically what you need to detail your fingernails and toenails.
You can also use your nail scissors for other grooming tasks like shaving of eyelashes, eyebrows, and even trimming of beards and mustache.
Electric Callus Scrubber
Our foot is probably the hardest working part of our body, when it comes to physical labor. It bears all the weight of our body, and over time, that causes a lot of the skin under our foot to die off and turn into dry calluses that needs to be removed.
That’s why you need a callus remover tool. This is a tool designed to shave off this dried of calluses under our feet in a very safe way.
Some people don’t shave off their foot calluses, and it usually ends up looking very nasty. If you care about your hygiene, you’d want to shave them off.
Use a callus remover tool to do this. There are manual types, and there are electric types. The electric callus removers are usually easier to use, but the manual types are okay too.
Toe Separators
Toe separators are designed to restore the natural shape of your feet and toes. If your toes overlap each other, you can use toe separators to restore them. They don’t work like magic though. You have to wear them over a period of time to see noticeable changes.
They are also ideal for keeping your toes apart when applying nail polish, to make them stay separate and prevent smudging after application.

Nail Cleaning Brush
Nail Cleaning brushes are designed to do exactly what the name says they do. They clean nails. So, if you have some dirt stuck under your nails, you can use a nail cleaning brush to clean them off nicely.
I believe everybody needs this, especially if you work any kind of job that involves getting your hands in dirt like gardening. This nail cleaning brush will be a life saver for you. You want to get every bit of that dirt out your fingernails when you done working? This is exactly what you need.
LED/UV Lamp
LED/UV lamps are designed for curing your nail polish or gel nails faster. Nobody wants to wait for hours or several minutes for their nail polish or gel nail to cure. In this fast paced world, everybody wants what they need right away, not later.
That’s why you need a UV lamp in your salon. To dry off nails almost immediately after applying any solution or gel you want to dry immediately.
If the nails you’ve worked on dry faster, the customer in your salon is satisfied, you are happy, and you get to move on to another customer, and make more bread for your business.

Conclusion
All the tools listed above are all designed for different manicure and pedicure procedures. For personal use, you don’t need to get all of them, because you don’t need to.
For a salon owner however, you need to get most of them so you can take care of whatever manicure or pedicure procedure your customer asks for.
